(MS/HS Level)

What do you need:   One basketball & a basketball hoop

Where:  In your driveway or park

Warm-Up

-Air Balls:  Shoot as high into the air as you can. Extend fully and use your legs. (15 times)

-Mikan Drill: Go get the ball out of the net and do not bring it down. (45 seconds)

-Form Shots: Make 5 shots in a row from 5 spots (baseline, short bank, right in front of the basket, opposite short bank, and baseline). *Challenge – any baseline or front of the basket shot which hits the rim does not count. Do not jump. Focus on extending and following through.

-Five in a Row: Starting directly in front of the basket and without jumping, make five shots in a row (no rim allowed). Take one step back towards the foul line and repeat. Continue until you reach the foul line. Any shot which hits the rim does not count.

Spot Shooting (Without Dribble)

Always pivot on your inside foot. Spin the ball to yourself if you do not have a partner.

-Short Bank:  Side, middle, side (10 in a row)

-Mid Bank: Side, middle, side (10 in a row)

-Elbows: Back and forth (8 in a row)

-Wing to Baseline: Both sides of the court (6 in a row).

-Around the World: Choose 6 spots on the floor (inside the 3 point line) and make 5 shots at each spot before proceeding to the next.

3-Point Shooting (Without Dribble)

Always pivot on your inside foot. Spin the ball to yourself if you do not have a partner.

-Elbow Extended: Back and forth (4 in a row).

-Top of Key to Wing: Alternate going to the right and left wings with a top of the key shot in-between (4 in a row).

-Wing to Baseline: Both sides of the court (4 in a row).

-Around the World: Choose 6 spots on the floor and make 5 shots at each spot before proceeding to the next.

Off the Dribble

Be sure to always shot fake and/or clear the ball each time and “go somewhere” with your dribble.

-One Dribble: Work inside the 3-point line going only to your left (make 10). Go to your right (make 10). Combine and go both ways (make 10). Shoot 10 free throws and repeat.

-Two Dribbles: Work inside the 3-point line going only to your left (make 10). Go to your right (make 10). Combine and go both ways (make 10). Shoot 10 free throws and repeat. Shoot short to mid-range jumpers during your first set; shoot 15’ shots exclusively during your second set.

X-OUT Drill

Begin at either elbow. Use one dribble to go to the basket for a layup. Grab the ball our of the net and dribble to the opposite elbow using no more than two dribbles. Touch the elbow, pivot toward the sideline, and explode to the basket for a layup on the opposite side. The ball must always stay outside the lane. This is a basket. Repeat 3 times, shooting 10 free throws in between sets.

Open Court Drills

-Full Court Warm-Up:  Go up and down the court using a combination of dribbles. Go at 50% speed, working on mixing up your moves vs. and imaginary defender. Shoot a pull-up jumper at the hoop. Make 5 shots.

-Full Court/Full Speed:  Same drill as above but go full speed until you make 10 points. Go as hard as you can! Repeat 3 times, shooting 5 free throws in between.

-Dribble Moves:  Start at half court. Make a move using any dribble move and then pull-up for a jumper. Stay with the move until you make two shots. Repeat until you’ve used all dribble moves you want to do. Work both sides of the floor and down the middle.

Jab-Series

Start on the right-wing. Spin the ball to yourself and pivot on your inside foot. Stay low when pivoting and clear the ball. Make 5 pull-up jump shots using each move.
